THE ARACHNID wax melts

THE ARACHNID or Anansi literally translates to "spider" in Akan and Ashanti languages. Today spoken in Jamaica, Anansi is the god of stories, wisdom, knowledge, and trickery. Taking the role of a trickster, he is also one of the most important characters of Caribbean and West Indies folklore amongst slaves. Anansi is best known for his ability to outsmart and triumph over more powerful opponents through his use of cunning, creativity and wit. Despite taking on a trickster role, Anansi is often portrayed as a protagonist and hero.

He is the one who is responsible for maintaining the many connections between the living beings of the known world and the spirits of those that have passed away. Anansi was often celebrated as a symbol of slave resistance and survival, because Anansi is able to turn the tables on his powerful oppressors by using his trickery, to gain the upper hand.
