Norse Animal spirit totems are a relationship of spiritual kinship between a human and a particular species of animal. The totem animal is generally held to be an ancestor, guardian, or benefactor to us humans. In Scandinavian Norse mythology, “fylgiur” are animal spirits that help people along their human journeys. The Norse believed that a person’s spirit animal was connected to the personality and character of an individual. Norse culture viewed fylgiur as messengers, guides from the spirit world that were sent to help humans. Often allowing us to take on the traits of the animal to help us in our human life.
